This week we have continued with our theme on fairytales.

The children have been busy making their own individual fairy cakes, which I am sure they really enjoyed eating.

The finished result!!!!!!!!!

Outside in the garden with myself, the children have been using the puppet masks to re-tell different fairytale stories.

Mrs Knight has been busy inside with the children making puppets.

Mrs Coughlan has been playing the Goldilocks and the Three Bears size game in the maths area with small groups of children. This activity helps with matching, ordering, turn-taking and communication with others.

We have been listening to tapes and reading different fairytale story books at story-time.

Acting out different roles in the home corner.

The children have been busy in the building site and sand area.

The children have been learning the concept floating and sinking with me this week . They took turns to experiment with different objects on the table, making predictions, learning new vocabulary and comparing the number of objects that float to the number that sank.

To extend the children's learning at bath-time give your child a small selection of objects that they can experiment with, make predictions, count the objects that float and they could even draw a picture to show us .

On the maths table the children have been matching numbers 0-10 and 0-20.

In the garden the children have been Polar Explorers finding different polar animals, using equipment such as binoculars, tick sheets and badges and drawing pictures of the animals they were able to find. Mrs Knight and the children really had a great time.

The children made an ice lolly each with Mrs Coughlan which they ate on Friday.

The children have made some lovely polar animal paintings and shape prints.

This week we have been learning about winter. The children have been helping Mrs Waobikeze make snowmen and snowflakes for our new winter display.

Mrs Coughlan has been encouraging the children to talk about their journey to school. As you can see, they have drawn some lovely pictures showing us how they travelled to school.

On Tuesday we made vegetable soup. The children had fun naming vegetables, peeling them and taking their soup home to drink.

On the art table Mrs Knight has been encouraging the children to name, draw and paint around 2d shapes.

In the garden I have been playing the snowman game where the children were encouraged to find numbers and order them on a washing line. The children really enjoyed this activity and many wanted to play it again.

The children have had lots of opportunities to try various hot drinks to keep them warm. In our cafe we have tasted tomato soup, hot chocolate and vegetable soup. As you can imagine hot chocolate was a firm favourite.
